Where does AI appear in a course?
AI appears in three places: your guide, the scenarios, and the tutor.
- Your guide. A presenter introduces what matters for the module and the skill, then hands you a scenario to watch. The presenter is AI-generated.
- The scenarios. The workplace situations you watch are AI-generated too, written to be relevant to the kind of work you do.
- The tutor. After each scenario you have a conversation about what you saw. That conversation is with an AI.
There is no non-AI version of a Patario course. If you would rather not learn this way, that is a conversation to have with whoever arranged your training.
Who decides what the tutor asks?
Compliance experts and learning designers write the rubrics the tutor scores against. The AI works to their criteria, not its own.
Nothing the tutor asks is improvised. Every question, every rubric and every boundary it works within is authored in Patario’s own content management system, reviewed by a subject-matter expert before it reaches a learner, and version-controlled — so we can always say which version of which rubric produced a given result.
Changes are logged and the log is retained for six years, which is the same evidentiary window we hold completion records for. If a regulator, an auditor or your employer asks how a result was arrived at, that question has an answer.
What won’t the AI tutor do?

- It won’t hand you answers. It asks questions and follows your reasoning.
- It won’t wander off the subject. It stays on the module rather than offering general advice.
- It won’t make decisions about you. It records whether each learning point was met. It does not judge you, rank you against colleagues, or write anything about you beyond that.
If something isn’t landing, it is built to guide you there rather than catch you out.
Can my employer see what I type?
Your employer can’t see what you typed. They see your completion and your scores — whether each learning point was met or not met. What you typed stays private.
Conversation records are kept for 24 months from the end of the session, so we can review how well the tutor is teaching. After that the raw text is deleted and only aggregate measures remain. The full retention schedule is in the Privacy Policy.
How is my result decided?
The outcome of a module is generated automatically. The tutor assesses your answers against the rubric the experts wrote, and records whether each learning point was met.
Under UK GDPR this is automated decision-making, and we rely on Art. 22(2)(b) — it is necessary to deliver the training your employer has contracted us to deliver.
You can ask a person to look at it. If you think an outcome is wrong, email [email protected] and we will review it. There is more on this in the Privacy Policy.
Where does the AI run, and where is my data?
The AI that powers the tutor and the video generation runs on Google Cloud’s Vertex AI, hosted in the EU (europe-west4). Your account and course data are held in the EU as well.
The full list of the companies involved in running Patario, where each of them is located, and what they do, is in Schedule 1 of the Data Processing Agreement.
Learners may occasionally type sensitive personal information into a tutor conversation without meaning to. Where that happens it is handled under Art. 9(2)(b) UK GDPR, as data relating to employment and professional compliance obligations. Our acceptable use policy asks people not to upload sensitive personal data deliberately — see Terms of Service §9.
